Why photos? And their meanings...

I wanted to do photographs instead of vector art because I wanted to concentrate on the textures and the feel, the visuals of the movie. McLintock! is an old west taming of the shrew, and has fiery women, men that are set in their ways, and lots of beer and whiskey.

Leather–John Wayne (George Washington McLintock)– a rugged cowboy and cattle herder, he is tough and sure and well respected. I chose leather because it is historically masculine, and also saddle material.

White fabric with eyelets– Maureen O'Hara (Katherine McLintock) Katherine is practical, yet for most of the movie determined to be sophisticated and part of the elite in the East. I chose something that shows a little of both sides, a cotton sturdy fabric, which has feminine embellishments.
Pink Tulle–Stephanie Powers (Rebecca McLintock)– Becky is the most beautiful girl in all of McLintock, she is educated and sophisticated, but she can also hold her own in the wild west. But the overall sense of Becky is her beauty, so I chose a feminine fabric, something she would wear.

Farm Equipment–Patrick Wayne •yes...John's son• (Devlin Warren)– the big to do about Devlin Warren is that he has come to the west as a settler, a farmer. And G.W. keeps stating that you can't farm the mesa verde. G.W. says he has no use for farmers, but ends up giving Devlin a job anyways. I will zoom in on the picture so it is more abstract.
Glass Bottles–Chill Wills (Drago)– Drago is G.W.'s best friend, right–hand–man, butler, and secretary. He is simple, and as G.W. puts it "He's just ignorant, he doesn't know any better". And G.W. blames him for drinking all the liquor. So I chose bottles, which I will crop to the center where no necks are visible, and it is more abstract.
Can–Jack Kruschen (Jake Birnbaum)– Jake is the owner of Birnbaum's, the "everything" store in McLintock. He is a jack of all trades, but is mostly needed for supplies. That is why I chose the can, plus it is something that would be in his store that is visually intriguing as an abstract photo.
Baking–Yvonne De Carlo (Mrs. Warren)– This is the most literal and needs some work to be more abstract, but I love the picture. Mrs. Warren is a beautiful widow, who is brought in to be the cook for the McLintock household. She makes biscuits that according to Drago "come di–rectly from Heaven."
Plaid–Chuck Roberson (Sheriff Jeff Lord)– he is a true cowboy and good friend of G.W.'s and willing to go against the governor of the territory to do what's right and just. He is level–minded, and a trustworthy man. I think a lot of people associate plaid and flannel with cowboys, even if they may not have worn it in the late 1800's.
Money–Gordon Jones (Matthew Douglas)– Matt Douglass is a....prick. He likes refinement and rules and rules and rules. And he despises G.W. and the influence G.W has over the town of McLintock, which is named for him. He is NOT a cowboy and is out of place in the wild west...he can't even ride a horse. He is there as a socialite, to see and report, and try to change. I chose money, because money rules everything to bureaucrats like Douglas.
Sheet Music– Jerry van Dyke (Junior Douglas)– Junior is Matt Douglas's son, who has been softened by the Easterly socialites in New York. He, according to Devlin, is a "dude" which is equivalent to our "nerd". He has no confidence, and barely any masculinity, or common sense for that matter. But he can't be blamed, for as G.W. says "like father like son". He loves to dance and play music and sing, so I chose sheet music for him. The song doesn't truly go with his personality...but I know not many people read sheet music anymore, so it was just an aesthetic choice, nothing deeper.
Wood Panel– writer: James Edward Grant, producer: Michael Wayne, director: Andrew V. Mclaglen–
Everything in the old west was made from wood, so I wanted to use wood for the background for the people who are the foundation of the movie. The structure, the support, which is also what wood functions as.
